Year 11 Chemistry Excursion to LaTrobe University

At the end of Term 3, Year 11 Chemistry students had a chance to experience some of the common analytical instruments and techniques used in laboratories today. At LaTrobe University, they completed various experiments that used these instruments to analyse water soluble compounds. The experiments they conducted involved quantifying detergent levels in natural water ways using the UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, softening hard water using ion-exchange and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), as well as separating phenolic compounds in water and identifying them using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Although it was a long session, students enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to use these instruments in a university setting.

Year 9 and 10 Drama Excursion

On the 16th of October, year 9 and 10 Drama students went on their first Drama excursion with Miss Madeleine. The students were lucky enough to see a play at the Pop-up Globe theatre, a replica of the Globe in London, famously housing Shakespeare’s productions. For some of the students, it was the first professional theatre show they had seen and it certainly helped reaffirm their knowledge and understanding of acting techniques and creating theatre.

Once the play was over, a sunny day allowed for a nice walk through the Botanic Gardens before lunch. Next students went to explore ACMI the digital museum, looking through the exhibits and reading about Australian cinema history.

Overall it was a great experience for all, the students behaved fantastically and all spoke very highly of the day.
